In 1997 Art and Steve Sandler set out to establish Tidewater Mortgage Services, Inc. in Virginia Beach, VA. Starting simply with a desire to help the community they are a part of, realize their dream of homeownership, one person at a time, one family at a time.

The very first Tidewater Mortgage office was located off Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, VA with a staff of only 10-14 people total. Though beginnings can be difficult, the staff encouraged Art to continue onward as they realized the potential that had been waiting to be discovered.

Finding success allowed the company to grow even more, requiring even more employees to continue the march toward the future. This led to a larger office with more staff on Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. As Tidewater’s continued success dictated, we ended up in our very own building with our company name proudly displayed at the top. Our Corporate Headquarters is now located at 200 Golden Oak Court, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.

From our start of 10-14 employees helping the Hampton Roads area and nearby regions, we’ve become a company that employs close to 200 people with branches located everywhere from New Jersey to Florida. In our very first year, we had only $300 million in volume, all the way to 2021 in which we had over 1 Billion dollars in volume.

We’ve been in the industry for some time now, but it’s more than that. We’ve had employees with us for over 20 years; some were hired as recently as this week. We’ve seen our employees grow with us, building families of their own along the way. We’ve celebrated life’s triumphs and mourned its tragedies, together. We’ve seen competitors come and we’ve seen them go. The inescapable truth is, we’ve become less a company and more a family with a unified goal of helping as many people as we can achieve the dream of homeownership
