Leap Into Vacay Mode With These Planning Tips

For many of us, the month of March brings with it a light at the end of the long, cold winter tunnel. For the northern parts of the country, the spring thaw is still a month or more away. At the same time, the southerners look forward to comfortable temperatures. No matter where you are in the country, spring break isn’t far away, and with it comes a brief reprieve from school, work, and cold weather.

If you’re looking to get away, here are some of our ways to leap into vacay mode.

Pick Your Spot

Choosing a vacation spot isn’t necessarily tricky. You should select a destination based on what you want out of the weather, activities, and general leisure. If you’re a spring breaker looking for warm sunshine, then consider locations in the south. On the other hand, if you prefer snow, skis, and curling up by a nice warm fire, then go to the mountains.

There are endless vacation spots throughout the country, but they depend mainly on your goals for your trip. Take into consideration what you want out of your vacation location and vet different options from there.

Consider Transportation Options

For many of us, vacations mean packing our bags, hitting the road, and even catching a flight to get to our end destination. Just because your vacation destination may be far away doesn’t mean that there aren’t ample transportation options available to you.

For long-distance vacays, flights may be inevitable, but you can still shop for the best flights, find the best prices, and lessen the financial load on your trip overall. For shorter trips, there may be far more options for transportation. If a road trip is in order, then gas up the family van and get rolling! If you’re not the road trip type, then consider taking a medium-distance train to see parts of the country you may otherwise never see.

No matter where your vacation takes you, there are likely many ways to get there.

Stash Some Cash

Unfortunately, vacations don’t often pay for themselves, meaning you’ll have to save a little money to go on your trip. Holidays never have to be extravagant expenditures and usually can be done on a budget. That said, make a list of all of your anticipated expenses, including travel, accommodation, meals, and miscellaneous spending.

From there, find out how much you need to save on a monthly or weekly basis and put that money aside in a savings account or checking account separate from your day-to-day spending account.

If your vacation is a long way off or if you don’t have a destination in mind, then it may be wise to use an app such as Finhabits or Acorns. These apps allow you to transfer funds from your bank account automatically and invest them into the stock market a little at a time. If you’re looking for a practical way to save while maximizing your return on investment, this is an excellent way to go.

Enjoy a Staycation

Maybe spring break or your vacation time, in general, snuck up on you. If that’s the case, then there’s nothing wrong with a good old fashioned staycation. That’s right; spend your vacation staying at home.  Staycations are popular for families on budgets but can be just as fun as going on a long-range family trip. You can explore a local state park, take a day trip to a nearby city, or even go camping nearby.

On the other hand, perhaps you’re looking to have a home to staycation in of your very own. If that’s the case, then get in touch with Tidewater Mortgage Services, Inc. For over 20 years, Tidewater has helped people find the perfect home for them!
