Tips On Getting Your Home Ready For Fall

August is accelerating away from us and the “embers” of the year are firmly upon us which means cooler weather, pleasant temperatures, and a whole slew of things to do in order to get your home ready for Fall.  Preparing your home for the Fall and Winter seasons is part of owning a home, but it doesn’t have to be difficult nor does it have to be terribly time-consuming.

As homeowners ourselves, we know what it takes to get a home prepared for the Fall and ready for Winter and these are our tips for getting your home ready.

Caulk and Paint

For most of the country, the Winter brings cold temperatures and typically lots of rain, humidity, and conditions generally conducive to home degradation.  Fortunately, you can get a big head start on the Winter weathering process and give yourself less work to do in the Spring by starting early.

Get a jump on both your Winter and Spring maintenance by doing some simple sealing and repainting where needed.  Exterior window trim, walls, and other areas can be trouble spots for water and weather to enter your home.  Take some time to caulk or seal any parts of your home that have shifted and touch up any paint that may need some attention.

Fall Foliage

Depending on where you are in the nation, your Fall season may be nothing more than a mellow extension of summer.  If that’s the case or if you want to simply plant some Fall plants and foliage, then this is the best time to do it.  With the weather trending cooler, getting outside and doing some landscaping may be right up your alley.

You can double up on your landscaping work by simply placing pots in the ground where you wish for your plants to go and place your Fall plants in those pots.  When the Spring season comes, you can simply pull up your Fall plants and replace them with Spring or Summer ones.

Fall Decor

Any homeowner knows that even if the mercury hasn’t fallen just yet, making your home feel like Fall can almost bring the season to your doorstep.  Quite literally, decorating for Fall can help you feel a little cooler and usher in the Autumn spirit.

Start by decorating with fall colors, wreaths, and decor that generally make you feel like Fall is just around the corner.  After all, Fall decor is valid basically through Thanksgiving then you can shift your attention to Winter decor.
